Celebrate Summer with your Favorite S’mores Treat

Summer just isn’t quite summer without a good campout, campfire, and a tasty S’more treat. We usually have them at least a couple times from May through September. As much as I love the traditional recipe with graham crackers, Hershey chocolate, and marshmallows, it’s always fun to mix it up a little and try something new. These are a few delightful twists on an old favorite.
Salty Caramel Bacon S’mores – the kitchn adds the trendiest of flavors, bacon and salted caramel to the traditional s’more for a delicious twist. Start with the basic graham cracker and marshmallow. Use Ghirardelli salted caramel filled chocolate squares instead of Hershey bar. And add a pre-cooked piece of bacon, extra crispy. Decadent!
Pretzel S’mores – Love from the Oven uses 2 large pretzels instead of graham crackers, with the classic marshmallow and chocolate filling. A nice twist, and if not too messy for your locale, they suggest dipping the whole think in chocolate. Two good variations for both chocolate and pretzel lovers.
Peanut Butter S’mores – Another small twist on the classic comes from Hoozier Homemade: the addition of peanut butter. This can be done in one of two ways. Replace the graham crackers with peanut butter cookies and fill with marshmallow and Hershey’s chocolate. Or keep the grahams, hershey’s, and marshmallow but smear a little peanut butter on the crackers.
Banana S’mores – If you’ve loved chocolate covered bananas, you’ll love adding a few banana slices to your classic S’more. Keep the graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallow and add a couple of banana slices in between. Just be careful with this one if you’re holding over a campfire. Bananas tend to be slippery!
Lastly, if you’re not doing the whole campfire thing, Food.com has a great recipe for S’mores Brownies. Make ahead and bring to the campout, picnic, or BBQ. They’ll be loved either way!
