Fall Home Décor – Easy DIY Ideas for a Festive Fall

Posted by Mary Babiez on Oct 06 2016

This is just about the time I’m packing away my summer shoes for socks and boots! Summer flowers are going dormant and we’ve finished planting a round of mums and asters for the fall season. Being from the Midwest, I love love love the 4 seasons, each with its own unique characteristics, colors, and design.

Adding a little fall home décor can add warmth on those chilly autumn evenings. Think pumpkins, leaves, a few scary things for Halloween, followed by symbols of gratitude to round out the season of Thanksgiving. While it sounds like a lot to plan for, it can be quite simple with these ideas we’ve rounded up from a few of our favorite bloggers.

What could be trendier than mason jars and chalk paint! I love this design, and you can swap out different colored flowers as the season progresses. For Halloween, add some spooky Halloween floral décor from your local craft shop. Then switch over to Thanksgiving with fall leaves, pumpkins and berries.

Another trendy favorite décor for the home are signs. Super inexpensive to make and they add an artistic touch to any room in the house. This sign tutorial from Jennifer Ciani is just enough to get you started.

Whether it’s on a mantel, shelf, or counter top, creating a collage of fall objects makes a beautiful display. Candles add warmth and you can swap out objects appropriate for Halloween followed by Thanksgiving.

Make a fall initial wreath. Starting with a base wreath of branches, you can easily add a burlap bow and create your own designed initial like the one here.

I love these painted acorns, which can be done in different sizes and placed throughout the house in jars, on trays or around a candle display. Full instructions are here at Home Stories A to Z.
