One of our top selling gift baskets is our New Home Housewarming Gift Basket which features all kinds of useful, tasty, and decorative gifts for the home. One item I especially love is the Naturally Clean Home book by Karyn Siegel-Maier. This popular book includes 150 easy herbal formulas for green cleaning in every room in the house, including the garage and garden!
Here we give you a few ideas from the book and if you like these, you may consider this gift basket for your next housewarming gift!
The Kitchen Sink – The basic kitchen sink cleanser is made up of 3 simple ingredients: ¼ cup baking soda, ½ cup vinegar, and 3 drops of essential oil of choice – lavender, rosemary, lemon, lime or orange. This is safe for porcelain or stainless steel.
Wood Cleaner – This basic recipe consists of ½ cup lemon juice, 1 teaspoon liquid castile soap, and 4 drops bergamot, geranium or sweet orange essential oil. Combine in a spray bottle. Apply to wood, wipe clean with damp cloth then wipe again with dry cloth. Even with all natural herbal ingredients, a small inconspicuous spot should be tested before applying to full furniture.
Air Cleaners – Fill your home with the following plants which naturally purify the air: spider plant, golden pothos, peace lily, fern, Chinese evergreen, weeping fig.
Natural homemade potpourri – A favorite for summer is this mix:
- ½ cup each purple basil, chamomile and marjoram
- ¼ cup each yarrow, juniper berries, and oakmoss
- 2 tablespoons each gum benzoin and mace
- 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
- 15 drops cedar essential oil
