Grown-up Coloring Books - Experience the Joy Once Again
Posted by Mary Babiez on May 17 2016
As a child, coloring books were one of my favorite things. As you can guess, that was just the beginning of a lifelong passion for color, design, and anything art related. I remember still coloring even when I started to feel like I was too old to play with coloring books. That's when I started tracing and freehand drawing, which then turned into painting and crafting. What I didn't know back then, was that you're never too old to color.
The last couple of years have brought a huge trend with grown-up coloring books, and I just received my first one as a birthday gift last month. I'm so excited! Last fall, approaching the Christmas gift season, there were articles everywhere (NYT, NY Post, Atlantic) about the popularity of adult coloring and how the publishers can't print the books fast enough for the demand. Well, I can certainly see why!
All of the hoopla about grown-up coloring points toward it being therapeutic and a great form of stress relief. I can't speak for therapeutic, but I think anything that serves as a creative outlet, is relaxing, or just plain fun, is a great form of stress relief. Wouldn't you agree?
We redesigned many of our Get Well Gift Baskets earlier this year, and while we still include our favorite puzzles and fun books for recuperation, we've added some fantastic coloring books to the mix. With everything from cityscapes to ocean life, the coloring designs are vast and never grow tired.
Our variety of coloring books can be added to any gift basket as a custom option, and I think they add greatly to a graduation gift, a travel gift basket, a retirement gift or a birthday gift! Really the sky's the limit!
