Today is National Siblings Day!

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents’ Day, Take Your Kids to Work Day, Love Your Pet Day…Some holidays honoring those we love are more popular than others, have been around longer than others, and are more widely recognized and celebrated than others.
I discovered The Siblings Day Foundation just two years ago as I started my lifestyle blog and began to research more and more holidays and days of recognition. I read the story of National Siblings Day and was truly inspired.
The Foundation was organized by Claudia Evart in 1997 in honor of her late brother and sister, who she lost in two different accidents. The date was set as April 10th, which was the birthday of her sister, Lisette.
The foundation's website states, "Siblings Day follows the spirit of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparent’s Day – a great American tradition and celebration of family-unit values. It is an uplifting celebration honoring people who have shaped our values, beliefs and ideals. It is a relationship as equally important as a parent’s relationship. Siblings are the reason we celebrate Mother’s and Father’s Day."
Personally, I can’t imagine life without my siblings. Losing our parents, first my mom in 1999, then my dad 10 years later, brought us closer. (And we were already pretty close to begin with) They are an extension of me, and throughout my life, they have been there through thick and thin. They make me laugh, cry, love, inspire, dream, and accomplish. I watch my nieces and nephews grow up with the same closeness and it is a joy to watch. We celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day because without them, we wouldn’t have each other, and for that I am eternally grateful!
