The emerald symbolizes success and love.
Lily of the Valley is often used in weddings. Famous brides who included Lily of the Valley in their bridal bouquets include Kate Middleton and Princess Grace Kelly.
It was once considered bad luck to get married in May There is a poem that says "Marry in May and you'll rue the day". (I know some wonderful couples married in May so this is definitely an old wive's tale!)
May is the month for the famous Indianapolis 500 car race and the Kentucky Derby, the world's most famous horse race.
I think my favorite thing about May is the simple fact that it is spring, and gardens are awakening. I love watching our gardens begin to bloom, wondering how they will change from last season.
