What's So Special About October - October Fun Facts

Anne of Green Gables was one of my favorite childhood books. A few years ago, in a book club, I had the opportunity to read it again as an adult. It is the story of a young orphan girl named Anne, who, at the age of eleven, is mistakenly sent, as a farmhand, to a middle-aged brother and sister, the Cuthberts. The setting is Prince Edward Island, and the story recounts the daily adventures of Anne in this new but awkward life. It's a wonderful story to be enjoyed by young and old.
Anne describes the beauty of the trees as they change colors in October, and how tragic it would be to live in a world without such beauty. I think of this as I look out my window on a grey October 2nd, and while autumn storms are coming this evening, I'm reminded that the color of the trees is one of my favorite things about October and even stormy and chilly nights cannot take away my appreciation of that beauty.
There is much to celebrate during the month of October. While many spend the month planning for Halloween as the top celebrity of this month, there is much more than ghosts and goblins to the month of October:
October flower of the month: Marigold
October birthstone: Opal
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Lupus Awareness Month
World Teacher's Day is October 5th
World Smile Day is October 7th
Bosses Day is October 16th
Sweetest Day is October 18th
Halloween is October 31st
